At Si Environmental, our commitment to service extends beyond the communities where we live and work. For the second year in a row, our team traveled to the Dominican Republic to partner with Living Water to bring safe drinking water and improved sanitation resources to Benito Monción, a community in the municipality and province of Dajabón.
Over six days, our team worked alongside Living Water, local community leaders, and residents to make several important water and sanitation improvements at a local school. The work included installing a new water pump, improving bathroom sink faucets, installing multiple water shut-off valves, completing piping for a new handwashing station, and installing a sanitary sewer line.
These improvements will provide students and staff with better access to clean water and sanitation while also benefiting the broader community.
More Than a Service Project
While our team was proud of what we accomplished physically, the experience was about much more than installing pumps, valves, and piping.
Throughout the week, our team had the opportunity to spend time with residents, meet their families, hear their stories, and learn more about the community we were there to serve. Working side by side created relationships and memories that will stay with our team long after the project itself.
At the completion of the work, we joined principals, parents, students, and staff to celebrate the official unveiling of the new handwashing station. Watching the children turn on the faucets and wash their hands with clean water was a powerful reminder of the impact that access to safe water and proper sanitation can have on a community.
We are incredibly grateful to Living Water for the opportunity to partner with them again and to the residents of Benito Monción for their kindness, hospitality, and willingness to work alongside our team.
